Fungal foot infections

Itchy feet? Step towards relief.

Fungal toe infections, also known as onychomycosis, are infections of the toenail caused by fungus. This condition leads to symptoms such as nail discoloration, thickening, and crumbling at the edge. The infection can be unsightly and sometimes painful, and it may spread to other nails or the skin. Fungal infections thrive in warm, moist environments, making the toes a common site for these infections. Treatment typically involves antifungal medications, either topical or oral, depending on the severity of the infection.

Access Telehealth offers a convenient route to consult with healthcare providers about fungal toe infections. Through virtual appointments, you can discuss your symptoms, potentially receive a diagnosis, and explore treatment options tailored to your condition. This service provides an easy way to address and manage fungal infections, helping to restore the health of your nails, all from the comfort and privacy of your home.

Precautions

  • Keep your feet clean and dry, especially between the toes. Wash your feet daily with soap and water and dry them thoroughly.
  • Use antifungal powders or sprays designed for foot application. These over-the-counter remedies can help eliminate fungus and prevent its growth.
  • Change socks regularly, preferably opting for materials that wick away moisture, such as cotton or wool. Also, alternate shoes to give them time to dry out completely between wears.

Common Medications

  • Topical antifungal creams or sprays such as Clotrimazole (Lotrimin), Terbinafine (Lamisil), or Miconazole (Micatin)
  • Oral antifungal medications such as Terbinafine (Lamisil), Itraconazole (Sporanox), or Fluconazole (Diflucan)
  • Antifungal powders such as Tolnaftate (Tinactin), Clotrimazole (Lotrimin AF Powder), or Miconazole (Zeasorb-AF)
