Eczema

Skin on edge? Seek soothing relief.

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a condition that makes your skin red, inflamed, itchy, and sometimes covered with small, fluid-filled bumps. It can occur in response to certain triggers, such as soaps, detergents, stress, and climate changes. While eczema is most common in children, it can also affect adults. Managing eczema involves moisturizing regularly, avoiding known triggers, and using prescribed topical treatments to reduce inflammation and discomfort.

Access Telehealth allows you to consult with healthcare providers experienced in dermatology. Through virtual consultations, you can discuss your eczema symptoms, explore potential triggers, and develop a personalized treatment plan that may include recommendations for skincare routines, prescription medications, and strategies to manage itchiness and prevent flare-ups, all from the privacy and convenience of your home.

Precautions

  • Keep your skin moisturized with thick, fragrance-free creams or ointments. Applying moisturizer immediately after bathing helps lock in moisture. Look for products specifically designed for sensitive or eczema-prone skin.
  • Take short, lukewarm baths or showers to avoid drying out your skin. Adding colloidal oatmeal to your bath can soothe the skin. Avoid harsh soaps or body washes; opt for mild, fragrance-free cleansers instead.
  • Identify and avoid triggers that worsen your eczema, such as certain fabrics, detergents, soaps, and allergens. Keeping a diary can help you track and minimize exposure to these triggers.

Common Medications

  • Topical corticosteroids such as Hydrocortisone cream or ointment, Triamcinolone acetonide cream or ointment, or Betamethasone cream or ointment
  • Topical calcineurin inhibitors such as Tacrolimus (Protopic) or Pimecrolimus (Elidel)
  • Emollients and moisturizers such as Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream, or Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream
